Brown Linseed (Flaxseed) is a great source of protein necessary for tissue building and repair, which contributes the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and bone normality. Brown Linseed also has high levels of dietary fibre both soluble and insoluble which contributes to regular laxation. In addition, the oil component provides the Essential Fatty Acid (EFA) Alpha Linolenic Acid (Omega 3). We cannot produce EFA’s ourselves, and therefore they need to be an essential part of our daily diet, making it an ideal functional food ingredient.  Brown Linseed provides nutrients that will ensure optimum health and wellbeing for the whole family, and it can easily be incorporated into the daily diet. health and wellbeing for the whole family, and it can easily be incorporated into the daily diet.

We grow our oilseeds on the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand. Our latitude, pristine air quality, consistent water supply for irrigation, and exceptional soil types allow us to produce superior seeds.

Our quest for quality and a competitive edge is ongoing to ensure that our products meet the highest international standards. With quality assurance programmes that maintain control at every point along the production process.

Our extensive investment in research and breeding programmes ensures we produce oilseeds with the best genetics, maximising quality, size, and yield. Our agronomy experts then maintain a watchful eye over crops from the planted seed through to harvest, providing the right growing advice and maintaining best practice to improve seed quality.

From planted seed to final product, we have complete traceability. Our plant-based production focus ensures we give back to the environment. Carefully planning crop rotations to improve soil health and biodiversity and producing only what is needed to balance the requirements of the land. Our oilseeds are produced in a responsible and environmentally way.

Frequently asked questions

Brown Linseed FAQ's

Welcome to our FAQ section, where we answer the most common questions about our products and their uses. From nutritional benefits to processing tips, we aim to provide clear, practical information to help you make informed decisions—whether you’re a food manufacturer, distributor, or ingredient buyer.

Is flaxseed the same as linseeds?

Yes, flaxseed and linseed come from the same plant. “Flaxseed” is usually used when referring to human food ingredients, while “linseed” is more common for industrial or animal feed uses. Nutritionally, they are the same, and both are widely used in food manufacturing.

What is the difference between brown and golden linseed?

Brown and golden linseed come from the same plant species and offer very similar nutrition, including high fibre and omega-3 ALA. The main difference is colour and flavour. Brown linseed has a slightly stronger, nuttier taste, while golden linseed is milder and often preferred for baking or light-coloured foods. For B2B use, both perform similarly in bakery, cereals, bars, and milling applications, and the choice typically comes down to product appearance and flavour profile.

Which is better, chia seed or flaxseed?

Both are highly nutritious. Chia has slightly more fibre, while flaxseed offers more omega-3 ALA. For business applications, flaxseed is often preferred for bakery, cereals, bars, and oils, while chia is commonly used for hydration, thickening, and plant-based nutrition.
