Hemp Seeds for Growing & Planting (Bulk Supply NZ)

Midlands Seed is the Southern Hemisphere’s leading supplier of hemp seeds for growing, providing bulk volumes of certified seed for commercial planting and cultivation. We are currently the only company producing certified industrial hemp seed in both New Zealand and Australia.

Our hemp seeds are grown on the Canterbury Plains, where fertile soils, clean air, consistent irrigation, and favourable growing conditions produce high-quality hemp seeds for planting with reliable germination and field performance. As part of our broader range of oilseed products, we produce premium hemp seeds for growing suited to New Zealand conditions.

Since 2001, we have evaluated and selected cultivars suited to New Zealand conditions, offering proven varieties listed on the Ministry of Health approved cultivar list.

We specialise in bulk hemp seed supply for commercial growers, with strong quality assurance programmes in place at every stage of production. From genetics and seed multiplication through to harvest and processing, our focus is on delivering consistent performance, purity, and traceability.

Through ongoing investment in research and breeding programmes, we continue to develop hemp seeds for cultivation that maximise yield, adaptability, and crop success. Our agronomy team supports growers throughout the season, from planting through to harvest.

Regulatory Update (New Zealand)

New Zealand has recently modernised its hemp regulatory framework. Cabinet-approved reforms remove routine licensing requirements for hemp, increase the allowable THC threshold to less than 1 percent, and permit the supply of Hemp plant material (including flowers and leaves) to licensed Medicinal Cannabis producers. Growers must notify Police and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) before planting, and all applicable Food Safety,Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM), and Medicinal cannabis scheme requirements continue to apply.
