Hemp Seed Oil is often touted as a ‘miracle food’. The undisputed truth is that this unique oil contains more than 75 percent polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (PUFA’s). Featuring a composition of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) – LA (Omega 6) and ALA (Omega 3) in a 3:1 ratio. It also contains smaller amounts of Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), and Stearidonic Acid (SDA), which are biological metabolites of the Omega 6 and Omega 3 EFAs respectively. It also has a low proportion of saturated and trans-fatty acids compared to the total fat content.

What is Hemp Seed Oil best for?

Hemp seed oil can support healthy living. It is often used for its health-giving properties, including as a source of GLA. GLA has been linked in some studies with anti inflammatory and hormonal properties as well as immune system function.

Hemp Seed Oil not only nourishes from the inside out but can also be absorbed through the skin. As a natural alternative to synthetic preservatives or parabens, Hemp Seed Oil has emollient properties. These properties support moisturisation, hydration and protection of skin.

The polyunsaturated component in Hemp Seed Oil gives it high nutritional value but is sensitive to light, heat, and oxygen. This oil should never be cooked at high temperatures with a smoke point around 165°C (329°F). It is best eaten raw or as an addition to prepared meals. It is a great substitute for butter on pasta, potatoes, and beans and complements seafood dishes as a dressing. What is the difference between hemp oil and hemp seed oil?

Hemp seed oil and hemp oil can be used interchangeably. However, hemp oil also refers to full-spectrum oil from the Cannabis stevia plant, which can include cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive component of Cannabis. Alternatively, hemp seed oil is produced from the seed of the Hemp plant which has been specifically bred to contain almost no THC. It is important to take great care to identify the origins of hemp oil. Current legislation prevents New Zealand grown hemp seeds from containing more than 10mg per kg of THC and 75mg of CBD in New Zealand.

Is hemp seed better than CBD?
