We are focused on a high-quality production process and the highest quality assurance standards. Our purpose-built processing facility operates a HACCP-based Food Safety Programme and is a certified food production premises, licensed and inspected under Food Safety New Zealand (FSNZ) legislation. We undertake regular testing of our specialty oils and superfoods - including flaxseed oil, hemp seed oil, as well as flaxseed fibre, ground flaxseed, hemp hearts, hemp protein, and hemp flour, to ensure our customers receive consistent, premium quality products that meet international standards.

The Evolution of Midlands Nutrition
Midlands Seed Founded
Midlands Seed was launched to meet growing global demand for high-quality, reliable seed. This laid the foundation for a vertically integrated approach, ensuring consistency, traceability, and performance for international customers.
1990
Midlands Holdings Formed
To manage the expanding business portfolio, Midlands Holdings was established. This central structure strengthened governance, investment, and long-term stability, enabling the scaling of complex seed and oil production operations.
1997
First Flaxseed Variety Planted
Midlands introduced a flaxseed variety producing higher levels of ALA Omega 3 (alpha-linolenic acid), setting the stage for premium-quality nutritional oils.
2000
First Hemp Seed Trial
Following government approval for industrial hemp, Midlands planted its first trial hemp crops, establishing expertise in a new, high-value specialty seed category.
2001
Strategic Stake in Midlands Nutritional Oil
Acquiring 50% of Midlands Nutritional Oil (formerly Oil Seed Extractions) expanded expertise in oilseed crops, strengthening R&D, processing capability, and reliability for high-value hemp and flaxseed products.
2002
Full Ownership of Midlands Nutritional Oils
Midlands gained 100% control, integrating oilseed production with processing and quality assurance to guarantee consistency, traceability, and reliability for contract-grown hemp and flaxseed varieties.
2004
Oil Processing Expansion
Initially operating a single oil press, Midlands expanded operations with a new factory housing three presses, enabling scale-up of premium flax and hemp oil production.
2004
Commercial Hemp Cultivation Licensed
With licensing secured, Midlands began commercial hemp cultivation, producing high-quality seeds and oil for food, nutrition, and specialty applications.
2006
Hemp Food Law Changes
Regulatory updates in 2018 spurred local demand for hemp-based food products, increasing market opportunity but also creating a more competitive supply chain, highlighting the importance of Midlands’ integrated production model.
