Midlands Vertically Integrated Supply Chain

Midlands is one of New Zealand’s most vertically integrated agribusinesses. Across our Seed, Nutrition, and Honey companies, we manage the entire supply chain, from the farm and field through production, processing, testing, and export. This level of integration gives us complete control over quality, traceability, and reliability at every stage, ensuring we consistently deliver exceptional products to our customers around the world.

From Farm to Final Product

At Midlands, vertical integration starts at the source.

Across Tasmania and New Zealand, we work directly with growers to maintain quality, consistency, and full traceability through every stage of production, tailored to the products produced in each region.

Our vertically integrated model allows us to control critical points in the supply chain, reduce risk, and deliver reliable outcomes for customers in domestic and global markets.

Seed Production & Agronomy

Seed production is a core capability across both Tasmania and New Zealand.

In Tasmania, Midlands focuses exclusively on seed production, working closely with local growers to produce high-quality seed under contract. Our agronomy team supports growers throughout the season, helping optimise crop performance, purity, and yield while ensuring specifications are met.

Every Tasmanian seed line is fully traceable, from the planted seed with the grower through to post-harvest processing and storage, providing confidence in origin, handling, and integrity.

In New Zealand, seed production is supported by the same integrated agronomy, quality, and traceability systems, forming the foundation of our wider vertically integrated operations.

Research & Development

Research underpins all Midlands production systems.

Our R&D programmes support seed production in both Tasmania and New Zealand, focusing on varietal performance, yield optimisation, purity, and adaptability to local growing conditions.

In New Zealand, R&D also extends into honey and nutritional products, including bee health, quality profiles, and new product development, strengthening the value and performance of our vertically integrated food and nutrition portfolio.

Sustainaiblity Principles

Midlands is committed to responsible, safe, and sustainable production.

Across our seed operations in Tasmania, sustainability is delivered through long-term grower partnerships, responsible land use, and production systems designed to protect soil health and future productivity.

In New Zealand, sustainability principles extend across seed, honey, and nutrition businesses, with independently verified programmes, including Toitū Carbon Zero certification for our honey operations, supporting environmental accountability and continuous improvement.

Processing and Manufacturing

Our vertically integrated model means we own or directly manage critical processing infrastructure, ensuring full control of quality, handling, and traceability.

Seed Cleaning & Storage (Tasmania & New Zealand)

Post-harvest seed cleaning and storage are managed using specialist equipment and systems that meet international ISTA standards. Strict line segregation, documentation, and batch controls maintain varietal integrity and traceability from grower through to customer delivery.

New Zealand Food & Nutrition Processing

In New Zealand only, Midlands operates purpose-built facilities for:

These facilities are integrated into our New Zealand supply chain, providing control from raw material through to finished product for honey and nutritional lines.

Quality and Traceability

Quality and traceability are embedded at every stage of production.

For Tasmanian seed, we maintain:

  • Full traceability from planted seed and grower through to cleaning, storage, and dispatch
  • Dedicated seed handling systems
  • Laboratory testing and documented quality checks throughout production

In New Zealand, these systems extend across seeds, honey, oils, and nutritional products, enabling Midlands to trace every product batch back to its source.

Our operations follow global quality frameworks and are regularly audited to maintain compliance with international standards.

Global Reach and Export Excellence

Midlands’ integrated capabilities extend through to packaging, warehousing, and export logistics, managed in-house to ensure reliability and efficiency.

From regulatory documentation to container loading and shipping coordination, our experienced export team manages every detail, ensuring products move smoothly into global markets.

Midlands exports to over 60 countries worldwide, supported by international certifications and recognised export frameworks. Participation in New Zealand’s Secure Exports Scheme (SES), Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status, and FDA and GACC registrations provide partners with confidence in compliance, continuity of supply, and efficient border clearance.

Why Vertical Integration Matters

Vertical integration isn’t just about control, it’s about reliability, partnership, and performance.

It allows Midlands to:

  • Guarantee quality and traceability from source to shipment
  • Maintain supply continuity across regions and seasons
  • Respond quickly to customer requirements and market opportunities
  • Drive innovation across seed, honey, and nutrition businesses

By aligning production, processing, quality, and logistics under one integrated model, Midlands delivers products that meet the highest global standards—while remaining flexible, responsive, and trusted by our partners.
