Production & Agronomy
We are committed to excellent service and technical support to our local grower suppliers and our international customers. Our experienced and knowledgeable agronomic staff work very closely with our grower suppliers to ensure production outcomes are maximised for the grower and end user, including both quality and yield.
With our geographic location in the cornerstone of Australia's arable farming area, we are superbly positioned to oversee all aspects of the supply chain from product development and production through to shipping.
Research & Best Practice
Our research and development team provide certainty around success of commercial crop outcomes, through dedicated crop trials, synchronisation of flowering for hybrid seed production and evaluation of new generation biopesticides. Our highly skilled agronomists work closely with the grower, visiting crops right from sowing all the way through to harvest, ensuring crops stay on the right track. We are continually evolving our processes and confirming best practice to ensure the best outcomes for our crops.
Crop Isolation
In Tasmania to prevent contamination and off-types, the industry has developed the SCID (Seed Crop Isolation Distance) system, which is a web-based tool used to help seed producers prevent cross-pollination between different crop varieties, thereby protecting the genetic purity and yield of their crops. It automates the checking of isolationdistances between newly planted crops by mapping their locations and flagging potential conflicts, which alerts the relevant growers and merchants to address any issues before planting thus avoiding contamination problems.
Closed Production Loop
The strength of our business lies in working closely with farmers throughout the entire growing process, from cultivation and planting right through to harvest. Because we’re based so close to the production sites, we are constantly in the field inspecting crops, providing support and direction to growers. Our customers are kept informed about crop progress and encouraged to visit and inspect crops at any growth stage with our experience production agronomists.
Varietal purity throughout the production and supply process is of paramount importance, to protect the interest of our customers and the integrity of Midlands Seed.
