Midlands Seed has celebrated its 25th Birthday by giving back to the local community and both the Mid Canterbury Cancer Society and the Ashburton Stadium Complex Trust were recipients of a generous donation. The company is celebrating 25 years of success in the International seed trade and rather than spending money in this anniversary year, decided to donate the combined sum of $25000 to two organisations that would benefit the local community.

Midlands Seed Managing Director Chris Green said “On behalf of our staff, grower suppliers and international partners, it is great to be able to make these donations into the same local community which has supported our business since the company’s inception in 1990”.

“The success of Midlands Seed as a local business spanning 25 years can be attributed to the outstanding contributions of both our grower suppliers and our dedicated staff. It has been a period of continued growth for the company during this time and we are delighted to have been part of the development of a world leading agricultural sector right here in Mid Canterbury”, Mr Green said.

As well as taking the opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved by the business over the last 25 years, Mr Green also advised that the company is very excited at the prospect of the continual growth of the Arable sector in Canterbury in the future and was very appreciative of their ongoing support from the companies grower suppliers.

“It is very important to acknowledge our grower suppliers, as it is our ongoing partnership with our growers that has forged our success”

“The directors of Midlands were adamant that these donations were to be of local benefit, and the two recipients chosen are both community organisations that Midlands can support knowing that this contribution will benefit our staff, grower suppliers, service suppliers, and their families and friends” Mr Green said.

Mid Canterbury Cancer Society Manager Annie Bonifant said Midlands Seed had been generous benefactors in the past, and the most recent donation would be used to support the charity’s existing services.

“It’s an absolutely amazing gesture,” Mrs Bonifant said.

“This donation from Midlands allows us to support many people living and coping with cancer in our community and for that we are so grateful. It is a privilege to offer services, free of charge to people whose lives have been affected by cancer”, she said.

Brian Leadley accepted the donation on behalf of the Ashburton Stadium Trust. “We are very grateful for Midlands’ generosity and congratulate the company on 25 years of business and community support,” he said.

“We are right on the doorstep of opening the facility and into the fit out. We want it to be more than a sports complex – it should be something the entire community can use”.
