Production & Agronomy
At Midlands Seed Tasmania, we are committed to delivering strong production outcomes through close collaboration with our local grower network and our international customers.
Our experienced agronomic team works directly with Tasmanian growers throughout the season to optimise both quality and yield, ensuring crops meet varietal, purity, and performance expectations. By providing hands‑on technical support and clear production guidance, we help growers achieve reliable results while protecting the integrity of the final product.
Based in one of Australia’s key arable regions, our Tasmanian operations allow us to closely oversee production from planted seed through to post‑harvest processing, supporting consistent outcomes and full traceability.
Research & Best Practice
Research and continuous improvement underpin our production systems in Tasmania.
Our agronomists support commercial crop success through:
- Dedicated crop trials
- Synchronisation of flowering for hybrid seed production
- Evaluation and adoption of new‑generation crop protection and biopesticide solutions
Crops are monitored from sowing through to harvest, with regular field inspections to ensure they remain on track and issues are identified early. We continually review and refine our processes to confirm best practice and ensure the strongest possible outcomes for both growers and end users.
Crop Isolation
Varietal purity is fundamental to quality seed production.
To minimise the risk of contamination and off‑types, we ensure all seed crops are appropriately isolated. Through the use of the SCID (Seed Crop Isolation Distance) programme, we work with local growers and landholders to understand surrounding planting intentions and manage crop placement accordingly.
This proactive approach helps protect genetic integrity and maintain confidence in every seed line produced.
Closed Production Loop
A key strength of our Tasmanian operation is the ability to work closely with growers throughout the entire production cycle.
From cultivation and planting through the growing season to harvest, our team remains closely involved and readily accessible. Being located close to the production source allows us to carry out field inspections promptly, respond to grower enquiries efficiently, and maintain accurate oversight of crop progress.
Customers are kept informed of crop development and prospects throughout the season, and site visits are welcomed where appropriate.
Maintaining varietal purity and traceability across the entire production and supply process is paramount, protecting the interests of our customers and the integrity of Midlands Seed.
