Strong Southern Hemisphere Production, Led from Tasmania

Midlands operates across two of the most reliable agricultural regions in the Southern Hemisphere: Tasmania, Australia, and our home base in Canterbury, New Zealand. This trans‑Tasman footprint allows us to deliver high‑quality agricultural products with greater flexibility, resilience, and consistency for Australian and international customers.

Tasmania plays a critical role in our production system. Its cool climate, reliable rainfall, fertile soils, and highly skilled grower base provide ideal conditions for seed multiplication, arable crops, and specialty agricultural products. These advantages enable us to produce to specification, manage risk, and maintain consistent output year on year.

Our Tasmanian operations are fully integrated with our New Zealand base, drawing on shared agronomic expertise, research capability, and production standards developed in Canterbury over more than three decades.

Established Production Capability in Tasmania

Midlands established production in Tasmania in 2004, as a natural extension of its New Zealand operations, recognising the region’s strong alignment in climate, agronomy, and farming expertise. Following successful trials and commercial crops, Tasmania has become a core production region within the wider Midlands supply network.

Today, our Tasmanian production supports a diverse range of crops, including cereals, oilseeds, pulses, clovers, ryegrass, hemp, and specialty seed lines. This breadth allows us to service a wide range of market requirements while maintaining control over quality, traceability, and supply continuity.

Counter‑Season Supply with Reduced Risk

Operating across New Zealand and Tasmania gives Midlands a genuine counter‑season advantage within the Southern Hemisphere. By spreading production across regions, we reduce exposure to seasonal variability and provide customers with greater supply certainty.

Our agronomy and production teams carefully plan planting and harvest cycles to align with market demand, enabling reliable year‑round access to key products. For Australian buyers, this means dependable supply supported by regional proximity and shared regulatory alignment.

Integrated Expertise, From Field to Export

Production is supported by world‑class technical expertise across both Tasmania and New Zealand. Our agronomists, grower managers, and production teams work closely with contracted growers to optimise crop performance, manage quality, and ensure products meet strict specifications.

Advanced infrastructure, robust quality assurance programmes, and full traceability systems allow us to maintain integrity from planted seed through to final product. This integrated approach protects product performance and supports compliance with Australian and international market requirements.

Sustainability Built Into Production

Sustainability underpins how Midlands operates in Tasmania and New Zealand. Responsible land use, ethical farming practices, and long‑term grower partnerships ensure production supports both environmental health and commercial viability.

Our commitment to research, innovation, and continuous improvement strengthens the resilience of our production systems and supports the long‑term success of our growers, customers, and supply partners.

A Trusted Local Partner, Backed by NZ Heritage

Tasmanian production is a critical part of Midlands’ capability, backed by the experience, systems, and technical foundations developed in New Zealand. This trans‑Tasman model offers Australian customers the confidence of local production, supported by decades of expertise in high‑value agricultural supply.

By combining Tasmania’s growing conditions with New Zealand’s agronomic heritage, Midlands delivers consistent, high‑quality products that perform in demanding domestic and export markets.
