About our Safflower Oil

Midlands Safflower Oil is a high-quality, cold-pressed oil sourced from verified international suppliers. Available in bulk or NZ-formulated capsules, it offers consistency, traceability, and purity for functional foods, dietary supplements, and cosmetic applications.

High Oleic

Safflower Oil High Oleic is high in Oleic Acid (Omega 9), and it is this high monounsaturated component which makes this oil ideal for high temperature cooking.

This high monounsaturated component is complimented by a low polyunsaturated component, which reconfirms the oils stability at high temperatures. Its high smoke point means it can be used for both frying and cooking, and its mild taste and odour means it can be used across a wide range of food applications. The characteristics that give High Oleic Safflower Oil its high degree of monounsaturation also provide this oil with stability levels otherwise seen only in saturated or hydrogenated oils, or oils with added antioxidants. Natural specialty oils containing monounsaturates such as Oleic Acid are commonly targeted as a healthier cooking alternative to saturated fats and hydrogenated oils. Monounsaturates appear to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels without changing HDL (good) cholesterol levels in the blood, thus reducing the risk of heart disease.

High Linoleic

Safflower Oil High Linoleic contains high levels of the Essential Fatty Acid Linoleic Acid (Omega 6, LA), as well as the monounsaturated Oleic Acid (Omega 9).

These two fatty acids are the main contributors to this products high unsaturated fat component, with a subsequent low level of saturated fat. In nutritional markets Safflower Oil High Linoleic is recognised as the primary source of Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). CLA is an isomer of LA - which refers to a slight rearrangement of the molecular structure (conjugation) - resulting in a fatty acid with altered chemical functions. The form of CLA found most commonly in dietary supplements is manufactured from vegetable oils such as Sunflower Oil or Safflower Oil, with the majority of Research literature focusing on CLA derived from Safflower Oil. In its raw form Safflower Oil High Linoleic is commonly used as a salad dressing or as a garnish drizzled over vegetables. Unlike Safflower Oil High Oleic it is very sensitive to heat so should not be used for high temperature cooking.

What our customers say

We first came across Midlands in 2019 while searching for a supplier to produce Flax oil products for the Hong Kong market. Midlands’ ability to grow, press, and pack flax oil was a major drawcard for us, with traceability, quality, and reliability being key priorities on our list. This relationship still continues today.

From nutritional benefits to processing tips, we aim to provide clear, practical information to help you make informed decisions - whether you’re a food manufacturer, distributor, or ingredient buyer.

Is safflower oil good or bad for you?

Safflower oil is generally good for you, especially high-oleic varieties rich in monounsaturated fats. It's great for high-heat cooking and baking. Many food producers buy bulk safflower oil for snacks, frying, and clean-label cooking oils.

Which is better, sunflower oil or safflower oil?

Sunflower oil is mild and vitamin E–rich, while safflower oil offers excellent high-heat stability. Each shines in different applications. Many brands source both bulk sunflower and bulk safflower oils to meet diverse product needs.
