Flaxseed oil is a natural oil, with high levels of polyunsaturated fat, making it sensitive to light, heat, and oxygen. It has a very low smoke point of 107°C (225°F), meaning it should never be used during cooking. It is best used as a finishing oil, eaten raw or as an addition to prepared meals. It has a mild and slightly nutty flavour when consumed fresh, and can be a great substitute for butter on pasta, potatoes and beans and complements seafood dishes as a dressing.
